Venezuela has been ruled by the Socialist PSUV for the past 20 years. From 1999 until his death in 2013, Hugo Chávez was president. She was replaced by her right-hand man, Nicolás Maduro. Over more than two decades in power, PSUV has taken over many key institutions including the judiciary, the electoral council and the Supreme Court. But under President Maduro, Venezuela's economy has collapsed. The shortage of basic equipment has been rampant, leaving more than 5 million people on the move.
